The hosts of MYJN Galerie
On most afternoons, you will find them wherever the light happens to fall. Two cats, one black, one tabby, stretched across the cool concrete floors of the galerie, drifting from one patch of sun to the next as the day moves on.
They carry themselves like they have always owned this house.
In truth, they arrived with nothing at all.
A sound beneath the board
Three years ago, at our old studio in Klang, we heard tiny cries coming from the backyard. Rowan followed the sound to a heavy wooden board and carefully lifted it. Underneath, a small black kitten looked up at him.
Then, in the shadow beside him, another pair of eyes.
Tucked quietly against his brother was a little tabby. They were only babies, small enough to rest in one hand, far too young to be on their own.
We searched everywhere for their mother and found no trace of her.
A few days later, a black cat appeared in the backyard. She kept her distance, watching them through the window where they now slept, warm and fed. We showed her that they were safe. She watched in silence for a long while. Then she turned and slowly walked away.
She never returned.
We like to believe she came back for one reason: to be sure. And once she was, she left them in our keeping. That moment felt like an unspoken promise, one we have kept ever since.
Two names, one blessing
Because we found him first, the black kitten became the older brother. In Japanese culture, black cats are believed to bring good fortune and protection, so we named him Cai Cai, from cai (财), prosperity, with the wish that he would fill our home with luck, happiness, and warmth.
The little tabby became Fa Fa. His soft stripes reminded us of delicate floral patterns, and in Cantonese, fa (花) means flower. A name for blooming, for growing, for becoming the most beautiful little local tabby he could be.
Together, their names form Fa Cai (发财), the old blessing of prosperity and abundance.
Looking back, that is exactly what they brought us. Not the kind of fortune you can count. The kind you feel.
The hosts of the house
When we moved into the galerie, Fa Fa and Cai Cai moved with us, and quickly decided they were the true hosts of the house. They adore the coolness of the concrete underfoot. They know exactly where the sunlight lands at every hour, and they follow it faithfully across the floor from morning until late afternoon.
Somewhere along the way, we began sharing small moments of their lives. An impossible sleeping position. A slow blink. A nap in a square of sun. To our quiet surprise, people grew fond of them, and long before we planned for it, they had become part of our community.
More than anything, they have filled our days with a happiness that cannot be measured. Their gentle purring, their curious wandering, their quiet company through long working hours. Small treasures, woven into ordinary routines. They remind us that happiness often lives in the smallest gestures: familiar rituals, warm light, and the quiet presence of those who share our days.
Cai Cai (The Black Cat)

The older brother of the house. Gentle and affectionate, Cai Cai seeks quiet companionship and loves being near the people he trusts. Beyond the comfort of home, he is surprisingly timid, easily startled by the wider world. Give him a little time, and his soft nature will slowly reveal itself.
Cai Cai became our little model in 2023, when he was just a one year old kitten. What started as a few casual photos quickly turned into something unexpected. One of his first posts reached more than 2,000 likes, and from that moment on, it seemed everyone had fallen for him.
As the years passed, Cai Cai grew into the role with surprising confidence (in size as well). Whether lounging in the gallery or quietly posing beside our jewellery, he somehow always knew where the camera was.
Since then, he has appeared in several of our campaigns, proudly accepting his payment in the only currency that truly matters to him: extra snacks.
Fa Fa (The Local Tabby)

The youngest of the house. Playful, endlessly curious, and wonderfully independent, Fa Fa is forever exploring, observing from a distance, claiming small corners as his favourite hiding places. He is shy around new faces. But if he chooses to walk over and say hello, consider it a small compliment.
Fa Fa made his modelling debut in our pearl campaign in 2024. Unlike his older brother, he has never been particularly fond of the camera. After a few photos, we decided not to encourage him any further.
Instead, we simply let him be himself. Curious, independent, and always exploring the house in his own quiet way, Fa Fa is happiest when no one is asking him to pose. We simply capture him as he is, whether that means wandering into the frame on his own terms or deciding that the flowers carefully placed on the table are there to be bitten. Those unplanned moments are often our favourites.
If you visit
If you are lucky, they may come by to greet you during your appointment. If not, they are probably nearby, resting in a quiet corner, keeping watch over the garden, or halfway through another peaceful afternoon nap.
One small request, from us and from them. Please do not feed them, no matter how sweetly they ask. They follow a carefully prepared diet, and we intend to keep them healthy for many long years of hosting. If you are allergic to cats, let us know when you book, and we will make sure the galerie is comfortable for you.
We hope you enjoy this home together with our two companions. And perhaps, before you leave, you will carry with you a little of what they have quietly taught us: to treasure companionship, to notice beauty in ordinary moments, and to find that happiness often lives in the quietest corners of life.
If you hope to meet Fa Fa and Cai Cai while viewing the collection, we warmly invite you to book an appointment.
