Jewelry Care
Guide
Avoid chemicals present in perfume, hairspray, make-up, nail polish remover, body oils, sun tan lotion and deodorant.
Kept in a dark, cool and dry place, avoid moist together with our anti-tarnish strip to prevent tarnish/rusting
Always store your jewelry pieces individually, preferably in your MYJN eco gifting box or soft pouch, so that they don’t rub together, scratch, or tangle.
To extend the life, shine and beauty of your MYJN pieces , we recommend keeping them in the jewelry box or pouch they came in.
Your jewelry can lose its shine when exposed to air for a long period of time.
To maintain the brilliant shine of your sterling silver jewelry, avoid any contact with water.
There are many factors that play into this; the weather (is it humid or dry), are the pieces touching the skin or being worn over a shirt, the environment, one's PH balance etc.
We strongly recommend taking off your gold vermeil, sterling silver, and pearl jewelry before going to bed, showering, or taking part in any physical activity.
Do not swim or shower while wearing gold-plated or silver jewelry, and remove rings when washing your hands.
The more they are worn and exposed to chemicals, the quicker they can tarnish and wear
Cleaning
Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth or jewelry cloth and gently rub the surface in a circular motion to clean.
Your purchase will come with silver polishing clothes. It could clean up the deposit on the jewelry surface. It could also clean stainless steel pieces.
Take steps to protect sterling silver by keeping it in airtight packages, use tarnish-resistant products (such as tarnish tabs or strips) that absorb harmful chemicals, and store sterling in a cool, dry place.
Most tarnish is easily removed by polishing with a mild abrasive or soaking in an anti-tarnish solution.
Stainless / Titanium Steel
If you're tired of high-maintenance jewelry, stick with stainless steel, as it's resistant to rust, discoloration, and oxidation.
Apart from affordability, beauty, and low maintenance, you will be using a recyclable material and supporting the environment.
Most of our stainless steel jewelry is hypoallergenic.
Gold plated stainless steel pieces might contain tiny amount of nickel.
If you are allergic to gold-plated earrings, try putting a little bit of clear nail varnish on the earring post or hook. When it eventually wears off, you may reapply it.
Sterling Silver
All our sterling silver and vermeil pieces are 100% solid silver as the base alloy.
Pure silver comes at a hefty price. Please beware that some other brands selling similar pieces at a lower price are counterfeit or not sterling silver, even if they come with the 925 markings. Most of them are silver-plated copper accessories that contain an alloy with toxic heavy metal pollution.
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes with exposure to air. Don’t worry; our sterling silver is polished and dipped in rhodium for extra protection.
Rhodium is one of the costliest precious metals due to its rarity. It has a bright finish that looks almost the same as white gold.
Sterling silver is hypoallergenic.
It is made up of only fine silver or sterling silver as the base metal.
Most people will have no reaction or issues with this type of jewelry.
Pearls
MYJN freshwater pearls are selected one by one for their brilliant, natural color, roundness, and luster.
Freshwater pearls are real, cultured pearls grown in lakes and rivers. They have unique shapes and a wide range of lust combined. Their attractive prices and charming character have made them favorite pearls.
Baroque pearls: these are irregular pearls, breaking the traditional view that pearls have to be perfectly round and smooth. Baroque pearls are for the modern woman who wants to make a statement. They’re also perfect for anyone who loves the quirky and unique.
Compared to the other pearls, if you are worried the pearls will be handled roughly or lost,. The lower price points will make them relatively easy to replace. Also highly recommended as “first pearl” gifts. If you're looking for an everyday strand of pearls.
Gold Vermeil
Gold Vermeil is far more durable than other brass plated options and can last for over years when properly stored airtight. However, fading will occurs in specific circumstances or not stored properly.
Not to be confused with regular gold plating, the thickness of the gold must be a minimum of 2.5 microns. All of our 18k gold vermeil pieces are stamped with “925" to indicate the sterling silver purity.
