MYJN is an independent jewellery and object-making studio founded in 2017 by R. O. and Galerie based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

It was not built to be seen by everyone. It was built to be found.

A PRIVATE AFFINITY · 愛着

We make sculpture small enough to wear. Jewellery is the only architecture you take with you.

Our collections begin with things we cannot quite leave alone: an architectural line, a shape encountered at the table, a familiar object seen afresh. We follow the attraction until it can be held. The story of a piece starts here. What it comes to carry in someone else’s life is beyond anything we could put into it.

THE DISCIPLINE OF DESIRE · 偏愛

Familiarity can make a beautiful shape almost invisible. Our forms have plain names. Egg. Dome. Sphere. Spiral. The shape is the whole point.

A collection begins with a fascination and becomes a succession of exact decisions. A dome needs fullness; an excess can make it inert. An earring can change character with a shift in where it ends beside the face. We return to these small differences because they are where the work acquires its expression.

A piece that only works at a wedding is a costume. Ours has to work on a Monday, which is the harder test.

Somewhere inside the piece is the day you chose it, and every day since. Metal keeps what skin forgets.

The feel of a piece matters as much as its appearance. We work in sterling and fine silver, gold vermeil, brass and freshwater pearl, choosing materials alongside the proportions of each design. Our vermeil pieces combine a sterling silver base with a layer of 18k gold. Pearls bring natural variations in shape and lustre. The finish receives the same attention as the form, including the surfaces you feel more than see: the inside of a ring, the underside of a cuff, an edge resting against the skin.

AN APPETITE FOR BEAUTY · 美意識

Some things are bought. A few are kept.

One of our collections began in the kitchen. Another began in the house itself. The eye in this house is greedy and has given up pretending otherwise. It wants the lip of a lacquer bowl, the leg of a chair an architect drew, a pearl that refuses to be round. A dish of pasta is a perfectly serious beginning. There is room for presence, for humour, for a form a little more generous than you expected to choose.

THE ARCHITECTURE OF ABSENCE · 余白

We build around you, not over you.

A tomato, a leek, a shell. Our jewellery keeps strange company in photographs.

Colour was taken out of many of them. Our images follow the same instinct. Black and white draws attention to contour, light and shadow. We leave the same room around a piece. Something is left for your eye to discover.

Look at what is not there. Less in the picture, more of you in it.

The Long After  · 余韻

Not the first glance. The long after. MYJN remains independently owned and run by a small team.

The finest compliment an object can receive is to be chosen again by the person who already owns it.

The bell stops. The note stays.
